I think most people trust their news outlet. And I think that if you watch a lot of Fox News, they’ll turn you into a Republican, and they’ll turn you against the Democrats.
I think if your news outlet has been CNN, you’re going to become a card-carrying Democrat, and you’re going to be scared that the Republicans are going to ruin the world.
Not enough Americans are skeptical enough of their news outlets.
When we were kids in the 60s and 70s, we were taught that the Russian media propagandized pro-Russian sentiment and had bad things to say about all the other countries. Of course, in the third grade, it never occurs to you that your own country was set up exactly the same way.
The difference is that Russian media was owned by the government. In America, legacy media is simply controlled by the government or owners with political intent. It is still, propaganda.
If you look at the two “trust” charts, you can interpret which media provides the most anti-Republican stuff. And you can interpret which media provides the most anti-Democrat stuff. And then OF COURSE you discover that the Republicans TRUST the media that is anti-Democrat. And the Democrats TRUST the media that is anti-Republican. Do you see what I’m saying?
AND NONE OF OUR MEDIA OUTLETS SHOULD HAVE A AGENDA THAT IS “AGAINST” A POLITICAL PARTY. BUT WE VERY MUCH DO.
So it bothers me when I see my neighbors “going to the mat” for something they read on their anti-Republican media. Or calling someone an idiot over something they read on their anti-Democrat media.
This is what it boils down to: The only thing that supports these free, legacy-media outlets is advertising space. If you want to make sure that your readership logs in EVERY day and sees the advertising on your site, you have to give them some thing to be engaged in, every day. And the more upset, they are, the better.
